We Lost The Sea has always operated as some bizarre, dysfunctional family. We’ve been able to create and experience some incredible things as a band together. We’ve been through hell and back together as well. We’ve always funnelled this joy and sorrow into our music and we have tried to present ourselves to you in the most genuine and honest way possible. The backbone of this honest, heartfelt performance since the beginning of the band has been Nathaniel D’Ugo. Today, we are announcing Nathaniel’s departure from We Lost The Sea.
Mark and Nathaniel started We Lost The Sea in a shitty rehearsal room in the outskirts of Western Sydney in 2007 and he’s been a massive part of our sound, our performance and the personality of the band ever since. From Campbelltown to sharing the main stage of Dunk! Festival with Mono, he’s been an integral part of the journey and some of the best moments of our lives have been shared with him. We are going to miss him.
Nathaniel composed some words for you all.
“With my departure from We Lost The Sea I wanted to take a moment to thank anyone who ever came to see us play or supported the band in any way. I may not have been the most talkative or social member of the band but I certainly appreciated all of you and seeing you from my seat at the back of the stage every night filled my heart with huge amounts of joy. Thanks to you I was able to see parts of the world I thought I’d never see and experience things I thought I’d never experience and for that I am forever grateful. Also a massive thank you to all the bands that we shared a stage with and everyone that helped the band along the way but a special shout out to Mike Solo, Matt Cook, Chris Flynn, Zoe Gale and my long suffering tour roommate Michael Taverner. And last but not least a massive thank you to my beautiful wife Alyssa for your unwavering support and patience while I was on this journey.
Until next time…”
As for what’s next, we are going to keep our heads down and keep writing. We’ll be making an announcement regarding a new drummer soon and hopefully we’ll see you somewhere along the highway in the not too distant future.
Peace,
We Lost The Sea
